Shadow Work: The Journey to Wholeness and Inner Peace

--

“The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek.” — Joseph Campbell

Image created by author using Midjourney.

“Painful though it may be, this is in itself a gain . . . How can I be substantial if I fail to cast a Shadow? I must have a dark side also if I am to be whole; and since I became conscious of my Shadow, I also remember that I am a human being like any other.” — Carl Jung, Modern Man in Search of a Soul

Forget the pursuit of perfection.

Carl Jung understood that self-improvement isn’t about becoming flawless. It’s about acknowledging and integrating those parts of ourselves we often try to ignore and suppress— our shadow side.

Wholeness, not perfection is the true destiny of a human being.

This is because in wholeness, all the conflict and tension between opposites disappear — it is the path to inner and outer peace.

That is the path of enlightenment.

The word enlightenment, after all, comes from the Greek “en,” meaning “into,” and “light” — it is to bring light into what is dark, hidden.
